Edmonds
Edmonds, a lively city 15 miles north of Seattle and 18 miles south of Everett, offers accessibility by Amtrak, Sound Transit, Community Transit buses, Washington State Ferries, cars, and bicycles. Established in the early 1900s, Edmonds retains many historical features. Located on Puget Sound, it boasts extensive water and Olympic Mountain views, four beaches, waterfront parks, and a walkable downtown.
Founded in 1876 and incorporated in 1890, Edmonds saw growth with the Great Northern Railroad’s arrival in 1891. Despite fires, shingle production thrived until the 1940s. Ferry service to Kingston began in 1923. The 1940s-50s saw expanded services and waterfront improvements.
Edmonds has a vibrant arts community, well-kept neighborhoods, a strong economy, and active citizens. As of 2015, it had 41,820 residents, projected to reach 45,550 by 2035. Employment grew 2% annually, with services (69.7%), retail (12.3%), and education/government (8.3%) as top sectors.
Transportation includes arterials, the Burlington Northern Railroad, city-wide bus service, and the Edmonds-Kingston Ferry, connecting Snohomish and King counties to the Kitsap Peninsula.
